The Hungarian Computer Music Foundation (HCMF) and the Hochschule für Musik und Theater Hamburg (HfMT) are proud to announce the Music in the Global Village conference, the first international conference dedicated exclusively to network music composition and performance to be held from September 6-8, 2007 in Műcsarnok Budapest, Hungary.
There will be over 20 lectures by leading experts in the field as well as 3 concerts with ensembles from Europe and the United States.

Netbased collaboration in computermusics Utopia>Music in the Global Village researches technological and artistic domains that are made available in the interaction of humans and machines in networked systems.To this end, in 2005 the initiators Georg Hajdu (Hamburg, Germany) and Andrea Szigetvári (Budapest, Hungary) founded the EBE (European Bridges Ensemble) together, a platform for musical internet- and network-performances.

The rapid progress in computer music technology since the 1980s enables individual musicians to create complex orchestral works in their home-studio or even perform them in real time.One result is the increasingly nomadic structure of the electronic music scene. But how to get back out of the artistic and social isolation?
Another technological advancement suggests the solution: net-based collaboration. Music in the Global Village researches technological and artistic domains that are made available through the interaction of humans and machines in networked systems. It aims to create a platform for musicians and media-artists for collaborative net-based art-projects and for the discussion of the latest issues in live-electronic performance.

EBE uses the network performance environment Quintet.net, developed by Georg Hajdu for their collaborative work.Music in the Global Village consists both of long term project work, as well as two public events: in November 2006 EBE played a live performance as part of the Multimedia conference Connecting Media in Hamburg.

In September 2007 Music in the Global Village stages a international conference on real-time performance at Műcsarnok Budapest. The conference will be accompanied by a series of concerts where four individual commissioned pieces for networked systems will see their world premiere.
