CONFERENCE – BRIEF ABSTRACT:

I am running a project at the Festival called Draw/Send/Play (http://www.makingnewwaves.hu/mnw2009/workshops_en.html) the aim of this is to do a number of realtime online experiments using free/open source/“domestic” tools. As much of my work is in the arena of Education and Participation I wanted to explore how it would be possible to create a meaningful series of live interactions without having to download or use special software. One of the biggest barriers to participation in educational institutions is a frustration with the technology that is often necessary to facilitate the work. This project will use online collaboration tools that are widely used for social networking and communication (MSN/SKYPE/Shared Online whiteboard etc) with a number of participants to create a performance.

Another area of interest in this for me is how me make the experiences meaningful and satisfying? How can one have an immersive performance experience when collaborating remotely? What are the unique opportunities for the creation of artworks presented by these ways of working and how can they be used with a diverse range of participants?
